The Basics

Welcome to the ICU

<aside> ⚠️ The ICU is among the highest-acuity areas of the hospital. Admitted within, you will find critically ill patients, often with numerous medical problems. Learners who first experience the ICU may find the experience intimidating - patients may be intubated, ventilated, and, connected to multiple drips and support devices. You will find that rounding in the ICU is extensive and employs a systematic approach to rounding.
